Barnsley have confirmed the signing of midfielder, Conor Chaplin from Coventry City on a four-year-deal.

Chaplin made 31 league appearances for the Sky Blues, scoring eight times in total, and his impressive performances evidently haven't gone unnoticed, with the Tykes wasting no time in landing his signature.

Daniel Stendel's side will be preparing for life back in the Championship, after they won promotion from League One last season.

Speaking in an interview with the club's official website, Chaplin was delighted to get the deal over the line, as he turns his attention to play in the second tier of English football for the first time in his professional career.

"I'm so happy to get it over the line. There's been speculation in the summer and I'm glad to be here."

Barnsley open their league campaign against Fulham, where they will be hoping to get off to the best possible start with a win.

But will Chaplin be a good signing for the Tykes?

We discuss....

Toby Wilding:

"I'm not all that sure what to make of this one.

"Chaplin's record at Coventry in League One wasn't all that convincing, but the fact that Barnsley have maintained interest in him for some time now does seem to suggest that they as a club are more than confident in his abilities, and the fact that they have finally got their man should be a big source of satisfaction for them.

"It is also worth noting that with the attacking options currently available to them - Kieffer Moore and Cauley Woodrow among them - you imagine it could be more of a bit-part role that Chaplin will be playing this season, which may reduce the concerns around his record last season.

"One thing that is for certain, with Chaplin now their tenth signing of the summer, Barnsley certainly mean business when it comes to competing in the Championship upon their return to the second tier next season."

Jacob Potter:

"If he can hit the ground running, then it'll be an excellent signing by the Tykes.

"They need strength in depth in attacking areas next season, as they prepare for life in the Championship, and Chaplin will certainly provide them with that.

"It's always a risky move when signing a player that doesn't have experience of playing at this level, so it'll be interesting to see how he gets on with Daniel Stendel's side.

He scored eight goals last season from midfield so he'll be keen to showcase his talent at a higher level, and if he can do that, then I have no doubt in saying that Barnsley will avoid relegation next season."

George Brooks:

"It's been some transfer window for Barnsley so far.

"I think Chaplin could turn out to be a very useful signing for Barnsley. He's got bags of talent and if anyone can help him reach his full potential it's Daniel Stendel.

"Chaplin is capable of playing in a number of different attacking positions and he's a great scorer of different types of goals, making him a very useful addition for Stendel.

"He's got plenty of experience in the EFL and scored eight goals in League One last season. I think he's capable of making the step up to the Championship.

"On top of that, he also played with Luke Thomas at Coventry, so they should be able to get the best out of each other for Barnsley this season."
