Scottish giants Rangers are monitoring the situation of Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Cameron Dawson, according to a report in The Star.

Preston, Blackburn and Derby all also have the 24-year-old on their radar for the January window, but they could all be usurped by the Scottish giants, if Gerrard decides to make a move.

So would Dawson be a good addition to Gerrard's squad at Ibrox? Is he good enough for the SPFL outfit?

We discuss..........

Kris Smith

“This would be a very clever signing from Rangers whose options look like wearing thin in the goalkeeping department.

“With Allan McGregor nearing his 38th birthday and Wes Foderingham out of contract in the summer, Rangers need to move fast to replace them.

“Cameron Dawson would be a solid signing for Steven Gerrard as he would be keen to get first-team football and would be playing in a side full of confidence at the moment.

“He is definitely capable of making the jump to European football with Rangers, the quality they currently have in squad proves it, coming from similar places to Dawson in terms of development.”

Ned Holmes

"Bringing in Dawson looks to me like being a really smart decision by the Scottish club.

"Allan McGregor has been a fantastic servant to the club but he is 37, so Rangers need to be thinking about his successor.

"Dawson has been really impressive when given at opportunity by the Owls this season and at 26, he could be an important figure in the Rangers side for a few years.

"With his first-team spot currently filled by Keiren Westwood, you'd imagine Dawson will be looking elsewhere soon and there are far worse places than Ibrox."

Chris Thorpe

"With Alan McGregor and Wes Foderingham both moving towards the back end of their respective careers, the prospect of acquiring the services of 24-year-old Dawson could be too good to turn down for Rangers.

"The young keeper has bags of potential, whilst he is also largely out of favour in the Championship, meaning that he could be open to the idea of moving to the Glasgow based club.

"It will be interesting to see if Gerrard does indeed sanction a move for the Sheffield Wednesday keeper, as it would in theory add some serious competition for their current keepers.

"I think this may be the best move for Dawson, as he would be moving to a club that is well known for putting faith in young players and subsequently developing their ability further."
