Millwall are said to be interested in signing midfielder Rajiv van La Parra according to the Daily Mail.

It has also been claimed that they face competition from Norwich City, QPR, Swansea City and Blackburn Rovers to the potential signing of the winger heading into the summer transfer window.

Van La Parra has been a free-agent since his time with Serbian side Red Star Belgrade came to an end in March 2020 after a brief spell outside of England.

He had previously been on the books with Championship side Huddersfield Town, and could be tempted by a return to England's second tier.

The Dutchman made 102 appearances in total for the Terriers, and played his part in their promotion-winning season in 2016/17 into the Premier League.

Millwall are currently sat eighth in the Championship table, and are just two points adrift of the play-off places, so a potential top-six finish is a real possibility this term.

But would van La Parra be a good signing for Millwall?

We discuss....

Alfie Burns:

I’ve never been wholly convinced by Van La Parra at Championship level and I struggle to see the value in Millwall making a move for the winger.

Whilst he’s got a promotion on his CV and does have some quality, you’ve got to question his suitability to a club like Millwall, with his previous spells in the Championship not exactly convincing he’d buy into what the fans at The Den want to see.

Would he work hard for the side and hold that determination to put others first? You might get a few flash in the pan moments, but nothing like what is required at a club like Millwall.

George Harbey:

Gary Rowett often likes to play with two quick wingers having played with the likes of Tom Ince and James McClean at Stoke, and Van La Parra would be a shrewd signing for Millwall I feel.

His last spell in England with Middlesbrough was hardly flattering, but the winger has previously impressed at Wolves and Huddersfield where he gained experience of winning promotion from this level, which would give Millwall that extra edge next season.

He is a fast, direct winger who loves to get to the byline and deliver crosses into the box, therefore he’d suit Rowett’s style of play and be a welcomed addition for the likes of Matt Smith and Tom Bradshaw.

Millwall aren’t really the sort of club to go out and spend big on players, and the Lions are renowned for recruiting wisely and pulling off bargain moves; on a free transfer, this would could be a real coup for the London club.

Sam Rourke:

This would make sense.

In my eyes, Millwall are lacking depth in the wide areas and could really do with an out and out winger who likes to take on defenders, and whip in crosses.

Van La Parra has an abundance of experience in the Championship, and has showcased in the past that he has the quality to become a decent player at this level.

Getting the 28-year-old on a free transfer would be a wise move for the London club, especially with funds likely to be tight amid the current global situation.

It's worth remembering that the winger played in the Champions League with Red Star Belgrade, so can bring some quality to the Lions' flanks and add to an area that does need improvement.

We have seen Jed Wallace utilised from a wider position on occasion this season, but Rowett needs more wingers in his team and making a move for La Parra would be a good start.
