Aiming to assemble a squad that will be ready to challenge at the top end of League One next season, Darren Moore has a busy summer ahead of him at the helm at Sheffield Wednesday.

In a bid to strengthen his side for the upcoming campaign, the Owls have set their sights on soon-to-be-released Cardiff City midfielder Will Vaulks.

Wednesday will have to battle it out with teams from the higher division for his services, with Huddersfield Town, Luton Town, QPR and Stoke City also in the running.

Assessing whether it would be a good move for Sheffield Wednesday to make, Carlton Palmer told FLW: “Yeah, I think it would be.

Sheffield Wednesday signed Barry Bannan in 2015

“I mean, he played over 40 games for Cardiff last season and with Sheffield Wednesday releasing SamHutchinson it’s been a problem area for them.”

The verdict

With Massimo Luongo’s future yet to be determined, Will Vaulks would be an excellent addition to the Owls’ midfield, especially when letting go of a versatile option in Sam Hutchinson.

Possessing excellent levels of tenacity and intelligence, Vaulks is someone who could thrive in Sheffield Wednesday’s midfield, alongside more creative options in Barry Bannan and George Byers.

Of course, the fact that the other four teams are in the Championship will provide a complication for Wednesday’s pursuit of Vaulks, however, the ambition of the Owls could bolster their chances.

Also, it is likely that he would more regular minutes at Hillsborough than any of the other clubs who are currently in the running.
