Despite the success of his country at the U20 World Cup, England’s Ezri Konsa Ngoyo will be disappointed with his lack of game time at the tournament thus far.

Having established himself as a key figure in Charlton Athletic’s defence having graduated from the Addicks academy at the beginning of the season, the Charlton born defender is one of the hottest prospects in the Football League.

At only 19 years old, Konsa is one of the first names on Karl Robinson’s team sheet, and has become a formidable defender despite the fact that the youngster regularly faces up to strikers far more experienced than himself.

Only receiving his first England U20 call up in March, Konsa will undoubtedly go onto to represent his country at a higher level, and a move up the football pyramid has become a matter of when, and not if.

Premier League clubs have been circling the player since September, and a move this summer seems extremely likely.

As much as Charlton will wish to hold onto their prized asset, a big money offer cannot be refused, and clubs across the Football League will look to The Addicks with envy, having only just sold fellow England U20 star Ademola Lookman to Everton in January.

At 19 years of age, Konsa needs first team football, and if a Premier League move does materialise, Karl Robinson should explore an immediate loan deal for the academy graduate.

Konsa’s departure would be a huge loss to Charlton, and time in the reserves of a top flight club would surely curb the development of this exciting prospect.

The big boys should battle for his signature, but would do well to leave the youngster with his boyhood club for another season to allow his talent to flourish.
