Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley has admitted to The News that Cheltenham Town's Will Boyle is a player that he is aware of as speculation continues over the club potentially moving for the defender.

The centre back is said to be on the South Coast club's radar ahead of January, with Pompey said to have been impressed with the Cheltenham captain's form during his side's route to winning the Sky Bet League Two title last season.

Add to the fact that Boyle is also set to be out of contract with the Robins come the end of the campaign and it is fair to say that a move for the 26-year-old would tick a lot of boxes for Portsmouth as they seek to add depth to their defence.

Now Cowley has had his say on the recent speculation over a potential move for the player, as he stated the following recently:

"Yeah, Will is a player that we're very aware of.

"He had a fantastic season last year and did very well at the beginning of this year.
"He's a Cheltenham player and I have a lot of respect for Cheltenham and Michael Duff and what they've achieved at that football club." Boyle has made 11 appearances for the Robins across all competitions, scoring one goal in the process. Cowley also went on to admit to the same publication that the centre back is a player that Pompey have been keeping an eye on in more recent times. The Verdict Will Boyle is a player that would suit exactly what Pompey need right now and the question will be as to whether they can convince him to move to Fratton Park this winter. He is a player who is set to be out of contract next summer, so even if a move can't be completed in January, they could still look to facilitate some sort of gentleman's agreement ahead of next summer. The centre back is at a stage now where he probably needs a fresh start after having been with Cheltenham for a good number of years and would surely be attracted by the prospect of playing for one of League One's promotion contenders. It will certainly be interesting to see if Pompey manage to get their man or not.
