“A platform to build on” – These Carlisle United fans react to victory against Oldham

Carlisle United played host to Oldham Athletic over the weekend and the result saw the Cumbrians come out victors by a goal to nil.

In what was a bottom half of the table clash, both teams went into the game looking for three points that would boost them towards mid-table and away from the relegation zone – with only one point separating the sides heading into the clash.

Carlisle fans have seen their team go through a mixed start to the campaign with important victories against the likes of Crawley, Scunthorpe and Stevenage but also disappointing defeats against teams such as Mansfield and they will be upset not to have come away with three points from games against newly-promoted Salford City and Forest Green Rovers.

Steven Pressley’s side do have reason to be hopeful, however, with young talents such as Harry McKirdy (22) and Olufela Olomola (22) scoring important goals for the side – with the latter scoring the winner on Saturday. The goal itself was impressive, in what was by all accounts a poor quality game, with George Glendon cleverly setting up Olomola who showed good composure to take a touch and finish into the bottom corner.

Carlisle find themselves in 16thposition in League 2 and will be hoping to push on towards mid-table despite difficult upcoming games against Newport County and Crewe Alexandra (which make Saturday’s result even more important). Here are some of the views of some of the Carlisle fans following the game:
