Sheffield Wednesday have endured a torrid first half to the Championship season with fans becoming very unhappy with manager Carlos Carvalhal.

In fairness, the injury list that the boss has had to contend with is extremely unfortunate, however there’s no doubt the side should be in a better position than 15th and ten points away from the top six.

Given their situation, the January window could be pivotal for the Owls if they are to have any chance of salvaging anything from this campaign.

But, what should we expect from Wednesday when the window opens?

We take a look…

Adam Simeoni

Perhaps they should begin the new year with a new manager.

Carvalhal has lost the plot at Hillsborough and looks clueless, and he should be gone after another defeat.

If Chansiri is going to get rid of him however he must do it early, so a new man can come in and make his own mark on the squad.

Alfie Burns

It remains to be seen who will be in the dugout at Hillsborough when the January transfer window opens, but there is certainly a need for a few reinforcements in the New Year.

The Owls are lacking real creativity in the final third, which they will want to address in January, whilst you could see one or two exits, with fringe players like Almen Abdi and Atdhe Nuhiu surely becoming frustrated by their lack of opportunities.

Fernando Forestieri’s pending return could dictate Wednesday’s transfer plans, as the Italian’s return will feel like a new signing.

George Dagless

Who honestly knows?

Carvalhal might not even be in charge by then and even so are the Owls' owners going to want to risk spending more money when this campaign has gone?

I think the window could be a write off for Wednesday, especially if they are still adrift of the play-off places.
