It's fair to say the 2017/18 season has been nothing short of a disaster for Reading.

Having had such a fantastic season last year under Jaap Stam, narrowly missing out on a spot in the Premier League in the play-off final, the Royals were expected to be competing in the higher echelons of the Championship again.

However, the Berkshire outfit, now under the tutelage of Paul Clement, find themselves in a genuine relegation battle with one game to go, with the Royals still having a slim chance of being relegated to League One.

If Reading do go down, or stay up, there is bound to be a complete overhaul of the team with several players set to be axed and offloaded in the summer whilst Clement will stamp his mark on the side and bring in players he wants.

Liam Moore and Tyler Blackett are two likely players to be offloaded this summer, so we've created a potential 2018/19 Reading XI that we could see under Paul Clement, utilising a 4-2-3-1 formation.....

It's likely that Vito Mannone will remain at the Madejski Stadium for next season, and the Italian will be the main goalkeeper between the sticks.

There is every chance Chris Gunter may depart Reading this summer after six years at the club, and we can see young Tennai Watson being afforded more game-time.

Reading fans are excited to see the academy product mature and develop, and the 2018/19 season could be his year.

Matt Clarke of Portsmouth is being linked with the Royals, and the 21-year-old could be a wise addition to the Reading defence.

He'd help fill the void left by Liam Moore, who looks inevitable to depart the Madejski Stadium this summer.

Tommy Elphick could remain at Reading next season, as Clement has the choice whether to make his loan deal a permanent one in the summer.

The former Bournemouth defender is an experienced leader at the heart of defence and can be a key part of the Royals' defence next year.

Jordan Obita has had to deal with a devastating injury this season, and has spent the majority of it out of action.

On his day, the Royals academy product can be one of the best full-backs in the league, with his lung-busting runs up the flank a key part of Reading's style of football.

Andy Rinomhota has been knocking on the door of the first-team for a while now, and the 2018/19 season could be the season where he cements himself in the starting eleven.

The 21-year-old academy product has shown flashes of his ability for the under-23's and he could be a surprise package next year.

Adam Clayton would be a fantastic signing for Reading in the summer, and if Middlesbrough get promoted to the Premier League via the play-offs, you get a feeling that a deal could be done.

He's a great combative defensive midfielder and alongside Rinomhota he could be brilliant.

Mo Barrow will definitely be the right winger next season if he's not sold, with the former Swansea player excelling at the Madejski Stadium this season.

Erhun Oztumer could be a very wise addition for the Royals, with the Walsall attacking midfielder set to be a free-agent.

Fantastic at creating chances and scoring goals, he'd be a wise signing for Paul Clement's side.

Callum Harriott has endured a nightmare season, much like Jordan Obita, and has found himself out of the team sure to a serious injury.

The 2018/19 season could be a perfect time for him to get involved again and start more frequently.

Andrija Novakovich has had a stellar season on loan at Dutch outfit Telstar, and Clement simply needs to give the USA international game-time next season.
