Blackburn Rovers are back in the Championship after a one year absence.

Tony Mowbray has masterminded an excellent promotion campaign which secured the target with games to spare.

They could also potentially finish first if they win and Wigan lose on the last day.

However, Mowbray has used the last few games to try out different set-ups as the preparations for next season have already begun.

Sheffield United and Millwall have shown this season that the transition from League One to the Championship isn't significant and that teams don't need to make lots of changes to succeed.

Here's how Blackburn could lineup next season in a 3-5-2 formation...

Raya keeps his place after missing only one league game this season.

Lenihan is the right-sided centre-back and he is likely to benefit from a lot more playing time with this set-up.

Mulgrew is the heart of the defence while also bringing his usual set piece threat as he looks to replicate his 14 league goals this season.

Downing is on the left with the additional centre-back ensuring they are harder to break down because they can cover more attacking threats.

The 20-year-old has the important right wing-back role which has a slightly different balance of responsibilities depending on the opponent.

Smallwood brings work rate and a tenaciousness to the midfield which makes them hard to break down in central areas.

Dack sits slightly further forward than the two other midfielders in order to link up with the strikers and be a credible threat behind them for second balls and cutbacks from wide areas while also providing creativity in possession.

Evans is similar to Smallwood in that he helps break up opposition attacks by acting as a screen which enables Dack to play further forward when in possession because of the security he provides.

Williams has been a reliable performer at left-back, but he has a slightly different role in this set-up which gives him more attacking license.

Asoro would be a smart purchase because he is used to being in a team that absorbs pressure and creates little for the forward players. Therefore, he is capable of creating through his dribbling and proficiency at counter-attacks.

Graham would have a striking partner in Asoro who is able to be intricate around the box and draw players toward him through the progression his dribbling provides which opens up space for Asoro to work in.
