‘A much needed addition’, ‘Love it’ – Many Sunderland fans react as latest signing confirmed

Sunderland fans may have expected the cash to be splashed this summer by new tycoon owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, but they are having to remain patient as a cautious approach to new arrivals is being adopted.

With a ‘data-driven‘ approach being adopted in the Swiss owner’s club overhaul, the expectancy was that some exciting young signings for transfer fees would be arriving on Wearside – but for most of the summer so far the focus has been on keeping players.

They have succeeded somewhat in that regard as both Aiden McGeady and Luke O’Nien signed new deals – unlike Wigan-bound Charlie Wyke – but they could finally press on with some incomings once those two contracts were sorted.

The first addition came in the form of Alex Pritchard, an attacking midfielder who has struggled for game-time at Huddersfield Town in the last few years but once cost an £11 million transfer fee, and he’s hoping to revitalise his career at the Stadium of Light.

And he has now been joined by 65-cap Northern Ireland international Corry Evans, who has joined after spending the last eight years with Blackburn Rovers.

The centre midfielder arrives on a two-year contract and will bolster an area that Lee Johnson has overhauled this summer, with the likes of Max Power and Grant Leadbitter being released.

It may not be the most eye-popping acquisition, but Sunderland fans have been reacting to news of the signing.
