Nottingham Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi will need to start planning for life after full-back Jack Robinson, after Sheffield United completed the signing of the defender, as confirmed on the Forest club website.

The 26-year-old plays predominantly as a left-back but he can also operate as a left-sided centre-back and becomes the Blades' second signing of the transfer window, after Jack Rodwell joined on a short-term deal earlier this month.

So are Forest right to let Robinson make the move to the Blades or is it a blow that he has exited the City Ground?

Jordan Rushworth

“This was certainly a move which came as a surprise, with Robinson having not been able to fully establish himself as Forest’s first choice left-back so far this campaign under Sabri Lamouchi, so to see him join a Premier League side was a little unexpected this month.

“It makes sense for Forest to have cashed in on Robinson, considering they have both Yuri Ribeiro and Chema who are able of playing down the left-hand side of their defence, and it could well provide Forest with a bit more funds for Lamouchi to strengthen his squad in the last few days of the transfer window.

“However, there has been some speculation over Chema’s potential future at the City Ground, but the defender has re-established himself as an important option for the Reds at left-back in the last few weeks, so they now need to keep hold of him having allowed Robinson to depart.

“Forest’s squad is quiet heavy, so allowing someone to leave the club who was not starting regularly seems like a smart move for the Reds, and Lamouchi will be hoping that his other two left-back options stay fully fit so that his side does not feel the loss of the defender too much.”

“Whilst there is no doubting Robinson’s talent, it could be argued that Forest have made the right decision to cash in on him.

“Having struggled for consistency this season, the defender was overtaken by the likes of Chema and Yuri Ribeiro in the pecking order at the City Ground before his departure.

“When you consider that this particular duo are more than capable of thriving in the full-back role, there is no reason why Forest cannot go on to achieve a great deal of success in Robinson’s absence.

“The Reds could now use the money gained from the 26-year-old’s sale to reinvest this month in areas that need to be bolstered, such as at centre-forward for example.”

George Harbey

"I actually think that it's a fantastic piece of business by Nottingham Forest, and fans should be delighted with the deal to be quite honest.

"Things never really worked out for Robinson under Sabri Lamouchi, he played a lot of games under the Frenchman, but failed to replicate the form he displayed under Aitor Karanka and Martin O'Neill last term.

"Whilst he's solid in defence, he isn't the greatest at going forward, which is why the move to Sheffield United surprises me as their full-backs are effectively used as wingers, who love to bomb down the flanks.

"To receive £1m for a player who was in and out of the team and out-of-contract in the summer is a terrific piece of business, and I don't even think they need to replace him given that Chema can provide back-up for the impressive Yuri Ribeiro at left-back."
