A successful transfer window could be vital for Bristol City as they look to push for promotion again next season.

Under Lee Johnson in 2018/19, the Robins fell just short of the top six, finishing in eighth, four points shy of sixth-placed Derby County.

Johnson will be looking to make a number of key additions to his squad but his biggest task may be ensuring that star defender Adam Webster is still at Ashton Gate at the end of the summer.

According to the Mirror, Newcastle United, Southampton, Burnley, and Watford are all rumoured to be interested in the 24-year-old, who picked up both the Bristol City Supporters' player of the year award and the Senior Reds’ player of the year award.

But where will he end up by the end of the transfer window?

We take a look at the potential paths he could follow…

Stay at City

After a fantastic debut season with the Robins, it could make sense for Webster, or “Webdini” as many fans have taken to calling him, to remain at Ashton Gate for another year.

City were close to sealing a place in the play-offs last year and will be looking to go one better in the upcoming campaign, and the central defender will surely be a key part of that push if he is still at the club.

He formed an excellent centre-back partnership with on-loan Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas and if the Czech international returns, which City are reportedly hoping he will, it could make the club a great place for Webster to continue his development.

Push for Newcastle

Newcastle is a huge football club with a massive following and the draw at playing Premier League football at St James’ Park week in week out, possibly under Rafa Benitez, could see the City defender push for a move to the North East side.

The Toon’s interest may hinge on another club making a move for Jamaal Lascelles, with Lazio rumoured to be interested, which would leave Webster with an excellent opportunity to establish himself in the first team.

Push for Burnley

Burnley seems like an excellent place to develop as a centre-back and Sean Dyche appears to have a knack for bringing English central defenders through, just ask Michael Keane, James Tarkowski, and Ben Mee – the former two having made their England debuts while at the club.

Again, Burnley’s move for Webster may be directly related to whether Tarkowski leaves this summer, with Wolves reportedly having enquired about his availability.

Tarkowski’s exit would present the 24-year-old with a great chance at regular Premier League football, which may be something that is difficult to turn down.
