Queens Park Rangers have been dealt a blow regarding Massimo Luongo, with the midfielder set to play a big part for Australia in the upcoming Asia Cup.
Luongo will miss four fixtures in the coming weeks, but could be absent for a further three if his side progress to the latter stage of the competition.
He’s been a regular in Steve McClaren’s midfield this season and will be missed for whatever time he’s away.
Sourcing a replacement or an alternative will be on the agenda at Loftus Road, with Ryan Manning one option.
Manning is currently on loan at Rotherham, but could be recalled in January when Luongo is absent.
Is that something that McClaren should be considering?
It would be a move that would make sense, but he wouldn’t keep his place once Luongo returned.
I think QPR have enough options in the midfield to solve the problem of the Australian’s absence.
If that proves not to be the case, then they can always recall Ryan Manning, but only as a last resort.
He should never have been loaned out.
I might be over-enthusing, but I like Manning, a lot. He’s a workhorse, a ball player, who can tackle too.
He could do a great job for McClaren.
It should certainly be considered.
Manning has impressed for Rotherham this season and he is more than worthy of a recall in place of Luongo, who is heading out on international duty.
I don’t see why they shouldn’t.
With Geoff Cameron still out with injury and Luongo set to miss a lot of games, then I’d recall him.
He’s doing well on loan at Rotherham and would be of use to QPR.
