Chris Hughton will have to find a fine balance this summer at Brighton and Hove Albion, ensuring he doesn’t upset the core of his promotion winning squad by overspending, but also adding some Premier League experience to his current crop of players.
There have been links between Brighton and a number of youngsters from Chelsea, such as Tammy Abraham and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, both of whom would be good additions to Hughton’s squad.
Latest reports are suggesting that Hughton is interested in bringing Norwich City’s Ryan Bennett to the Amex Stadium, with the central defender set to leave Carrow Road as a free agent this summer.
Bennett would be a good addition to Hughton’s squad, adding to the quality the Seagulls already possess in central defence through Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy.
One thing that Bennett would bring to Brighton’s backline is Premier League experience, having played in the top-flight on numerous occasions with Norwich in recent years.
The 27-year old played in the top-flight with Norwich during his early days in East Anglia between 2012 and 2014, before again featuring in the Premier League for Alex Neil’s Canaries during the 2015/16 campaign.
Bennett’s departure from Norwich is a shock, but he is one of seven players to be released from Carrow Road, with a big change in personnel expected next season.
Norwich’s decision on Bennett could prove to be a positive for Brighton, and if Hughton should make a move for the defender, the Seagulls will be getting an experienced top-flight defender, without breaking the bank.
