Outclassed in the first half by their rivals, Bolton United battled back well in the second to push Leeds United all the way, but their efforts were in vain of the west Yorkshire outfit ran out 3-2 winners at the Macron Stadium.

Manager Phil Parkinson will draw many positives from the opening day defeat however, and based on their efforts, will feel that Championship survival is certainly within reach this season.

Building on this result is key, and with just under a month remaining of the transfer window, Parkinson will look for further recruits to ensure his side remain competitive in the bottom half of the division.

Looking to add already, a move for free agent Charlie Telfer is rumoured to be gathering pace, with the former Rangers and Dundee United midfielder on the search for a new club following his release in June.

The 22-year-old midfielder is of a perfect age to continue his footballing education under a new manager, and Parkinson can mould the player into the man he needs this season.

Staying in the division obviously depends on quality, but strength in depth is also key, in what is a gruelling 46 game league campaign.

Telfer would certainly add this to the squad, and as a free agent, is an extremely low risk option for Parkinson to consider.

The player showed huge potential early in his career, and if Parkinson can put the player back on the track to stardom, the Trotters could have an exciting talent on their hands.
