Lee Erwin’s Leeds United career appears to be over, with the striker not featuring in Thomas Christiansen’s plans heading into the 2017/18 campaign and having just one-year remaining on his deal at Elland Road.

Reports have claimed Leeds have told Erwin to look for new employers, with a host of Sky Bet League One clubs queuing up to sign the 23-year-old.

A move back to League One, where Erwin spent last season on-loan, would benefit the Scottish striker massively, as he needs regular football to aid his development.

Erwin found himself at Oldham Athletic last season, where he scored ten goals across all competitions from 40 appearances, helping John Sheridan’s side to survive relegation.

It is that impressive form that has seen Oldham, along with their League One rivals, MK Dons, Charlton Athletic, Walsall and Plymouth Argyle, enter the race to sign Erwin.

The striker has also started pre-season well for Leeds, and despite missing out on the club’s tour to Austria, he impressed with three goals in two fixtures against Harrogate Town and Guiseley.

Leeds has never presented Erwin with an opportunity to gain first-team experience in England, but the Whites did give him the opportunity to put himself in the market last season, which the striker took with both hands.

Parting company with Leeds is best for Erwin, as a fresh start in League One is just what the striker needs. And if he can rediscover the form he showed last season, whilst continuing to develop, he could one day find himself back in the Championship.
