Despite Reading being in the midst of a Championship relegation battle, 30-year-old Royals man Sone Aluko is in the final stages of securing a move to Chinese side Beijing Renhe, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

Aluko has been at Madejski Stadium since August 2017 and has scored four goals in 58 appearances for the Royals, he will clock up his seventh permanent club if the move to China is finalised, having spent spells at Birmingham City, Aberdeen, Rangers, Hull City and Fulham.

So have Reading made the right decision by allowing Aluko to leave?

We discuss.....

Louie Chandler

"I think so.

"On the surface, it could look like a mistake letting an experienced attacker leave but I think it is the right move.

"In a relegation scrap, you only want players playing for you who are 100% invested in helping you survive, and Aluko clearly wasn't."

Jacob Potter

"In the long-term, it’s the right decision.

"Aluko has completely flopped at Reading since he arrived from Fulham and I’m not surprised to see him heading for the exit door.

"I’m surprised any club is willing to take a punt on him though!

"This would have been a no-brainer to accept an offer for him."

Gary Hutchinson

“I’m not so sure.

“He’s a decent player with a penchant for something special.

“However, he’s contributed little of late and I suppose Reading are looking to clear the decks of unwanted players.

“It might even be relegation prepping.”

Alfie Burns

“It’s not really worked out for him at the Madejski and so much is changing at the football club.

“For me, it’s the right decision and all part of Reading’s rebuild.

“If they can survive this year, better times will be on the horizon.”

Jay Taylor

“Aluko came with an impressive reputation, but he has failed to really deliver to the hype that was expected of him.

“Gomes coming in and noticing his involvement – or lack of – and has sought a remedy to the situation.

“I think it is the right move, his time at Reading fizzled out, and a move away was inevitable.

“It has just come sooner than many would have thought.”
