Paul Lambert will be keen to strengthing his ailing Ipswich Town side in January with the club currently sat seven points from safety heading into the New Year with little signs of an imminent escape on show.

And now, Tractor Boys captain Luke Chambers has told club owner Marcus Evans to back the club in the January transfer window or risk losing manager Paul Lambert

A 2-0 defeat to Middlesbrough at the Riverside on Saturday was Lambert's sixth loss since taking over at the club in November with the 1-0 win against Wigan Athletic two weeks ago remaining his only victory in his new role.

Paul Hurst was backed significantly in the summer transfer window by Evans as he looked to reshape the ethos of the club with young, exciting talent from Leagues One and Two.

12 new faces arrived but Evans now faces the prospect of a similar reshuffle in January after sacking Hurst at the end of October.

But how many new faces do they need in January to escape the drop?

We discuss...

Wow - how long have you got?

I think a new striker is a must - someone like Daryl Murphy who is experienced and knows how to find the back of the net.

Then, I think they could do with a couple of defenders and maybe a tough-tackling midfielder to shore up the spine of their team.

Alfie Burns

It’s tough to say, but their position looks bleak at the moment.

For me, I’d be looking at a minimum of five fresh faces, but they have to be the right players.

It’s such a hard situation.

George Dagless

3 or 4, at least.

I still think they can turn it around but they certainly need a bit extra right now - they need more experience.

Paul Lambert will know that and I expect him to make some good signings in the coming month.

Jacob Potter

They need at least three additions.

Ipswich just need some quality in all areas, as if they don't strengthen their squad, then they'll be relegated.

They're already in trouble, and they need to prioritise signing a goalscorer as soon as possible to save themselves.
