Fulham are the latest Premier League club to join the race for exciting Burnley winger Maxwel Cornet, as per a report from Daily Mirror (10/7 paper edition, p.74).

The 25-year-old, who has generated widespread interest across England's top-flight, is also on the radars at Chelsea and Newcastle United.

Joining the Clarets from Lyon last summer, the Ivory Coast international netted nine times in 37 appearances in the league, providing a further assist.

Predominantly featuring as a winger, Cornet was also tasked with operating as a striker at times last season.

Three of our writers here at FLW have shared their thoughts regarding Fulham's interest in the Burnley man...

The Cottagers should certainly be in the race for a man who can do it all.

Able to play as a left-back, on the wing and up front, these are three positions Marco Silva needs to look at.

In fairness, he may be less needed at left-back with Antonee Robinson and Joe Bryan available as options there - but could be extremely option as a wing option alongside Harry Wilson.

Scoring nine goals last season, his contributions would go a long way in helping the Cottagers to stay up, especially with Wilson and Mitrovic available as options.

And with their current lack of options up top, having someone like Cornet there who can fill in would be ideal, so this potential signing is a no-brainer if they have the funds to get it over the line and can agree a sensible wage package.

The likes of Ivan Cavaleiro, Anthony Knockaert and Neeskens Kebano are unlikely to cut it in the Premier League for the Cottagers, with the latter potentially being an exception.

Therefore, the services of Maxwel Cornet would certainly make them more menacing in the final third, and it could free up spaces for Aleksandar Mitrovic to take advantage of.

The Ivorian showed his class in patches in a defensive Burnley side last season, and could thrive with greater attacking freedom in the capital.

A hefty fee may be demanded for Cornet, but it is nothing that Fulham cannot afford with the huge jump in the TV money they will receive compared to competing in the second tier.

Cornet’s versatility could also aid Fulham and Marco Silva’s cause as they look to build on an excellent 2021/22 campaign.

A bit of extra forward firepower certainly wouldn't hurt Fulham as they prepare for another return to the Premier League.

Winning promotion has not been an issue for them in recent years, staying up has, and in an attempt to break the cycle, we can expect to see some more additions made to Marco Silva's squad before the start of the season.

Maxwell Cornet is a Premier League quality player and someone that has proven himself at the level, which is exactly what Fulham need.

All eyes are going to be on Aleksandar Mitrovic to see whether he can follow up his record-breaking Championship season by finally proving himself in the top flight.

Signing players like Cornet should help him do that and may help Fulham finally avoid the drop.
