Nottingham Forest underwent huge change in the summer, with Aitor Karanka overhauling the playing squad at the City Ground.

Amongst his last arrivals was Karim Ansarifard, who arrived as a free agent in early November.

Ansarifard has made only six appearances in the Championship and failed to score for Forest, with the man that signed him, Karanka, obviously departed as well.

So, was the signing of the 28-year-old pointless?

We discuss…

Jacob Potter

“They didn’t need him.

“Forest already have a number of options available to them and they didn’t need to sign another striker.

“Ansarifard isn’t better than the strikers they already have, and it’s come as no surprise to see him on the fringe.”

Gary Hutchinson

“Utterly.

“I called it at the time and I stand by it.

“It’s a little more pointless than Soudani, but not much.

“They didn’t need foreign strikers to go up, they needed proven England-based forwards.”

Chris Gallagher

“I don't think he was a pointless addition.

“Forest weren't blessed with many options up top at the time and they needed a third striker and the Iran international has good pedigree and would've fancied his chances of featuring regularly.

“However, a lot has changed at Nottingham Forest since then and I think he will struggle for game time under Martin O'Neill.”
