Mallik Wilks is impressing for Doncaster Rovers this season, with the Leeds United loanee scoring four goals, three of which have come in League One.
Leeds’ 19-year-old forward is highly-rated, particularly by Grant McCann, who is doing a wonderful job developing Wilks at Doncaster.
Rovers are keen to extend Wilks’ stay with them beyond January, but McCann hinted that Leeds might want Wilks to sign a new deal before doing so.
The 38-year-old also admitted to the Yorkshire Post that he doesn’t believe Wilks will ever get a chance at Leeds: “My personal opinion is he will not ever get a chance at Leeds. I think that they will strengthen again in January and they are strong up there (in attack), with the boy Tyler Roberts. It is going to be difficult for Mallik.”
Is McCann right?

I think he has a point.
It's hard to see into the future and Wilks will want to prove him wrong but he just seems a little short of where Leeds are heading.
A stint of regular football at a good club like Doncaster could set him on the right path though.

McCann’s comments feel a little bit out of order as Wilks is only young.
Statements like this could jeopardise Doncaster’s chance of extending Wilks’ loan, so McCann is running a risk.
Marcelo Bielsa has proved that he is willing to give youth a chance if they are good enough, and I’m sure that Wilks is looking to prove to his parent-club that he is good enough for their level.
He’s doing well now, and Leeds’ will be keeping an eye on how he’s developing at Doncaster, with a view to extending his contract.

It's a bit sneaky by McCann, isn't it?
