Millwall have added a new face to their ranks in George Honeyman, with the player sealing a switch from Hull to the Den on Tuesday.

The Lions have moved quickly to bring in some new signings this summer ahead of pre-season and Gary Rowett is seemingly delighted with the addition of the 27-year-old, telling News at Den that the player is a 'little bit of everything' and is in the 'prime of his career' now with the club.

Honeyman has been excellent in the Championship so far in his career too, managing 35 games in the second tier last season for the side with five goals and four assists too despite playing in the centre of the field. Prior to that, he proved to be an assist machine, registering 13 in one campaign for the Tigers when they were in League One.

Having previously also had a stint with Sunderland in the second tier, where he managed six goals and two assists despite the club being relegated, he has plenty of knowhow in the division and experience of grinding out results and getting the job done in difficult circumstances.

Honeyman then might thrive with the Lions, with Millwall only narrowly missing out on the play-off spots last season. They ended the campaign in the top half of the table and will want to push on - and the 27-year-old will be eager to help them out in their pursuit of a promotion.

Boss Gary Rowett clearly thinks he can too, as he told News at Den: "I think he’s a little bit of everything.

"He’s played in a midfield two, he’s played as a 10, he’s played in a front three. George knows the Championship. He’s a great character – everyone you speak to says what a top guy he is.

"He’s got great energy on the pitch and you saw last season he can pop up with goals and set goals up. At 27, I think he’s in the prime of his football career and a fabulous signing for us."

The Verdict

George Honeyman might be one of those signings that, on the surface, doesn't get the pulses racing but could go under the radar as an excellent addition for Millwall.

The former Sunderland man has really grown as a player over the last few seasons, having been exposed to a torrid situation with the Black Cats and then gone on to thrive with Hull. He took on League One with ease and after taking some time to adapt to the Championship, he is now comfortable in that division.

The player could certainly do a job then for Millwall going forward and could be one of those signings that just really keeps things ticking over for the Lions. He's at a great age as Rowett said and his ability is not in question considering how he has fared recently for the Tigers.

It's a shrewd move then to bring him to the Den - and it could pay off handsomely for the club.
