Bristol City are interested in signing James Morrison on a free transfer this summer, according to Sky Sports News reporter Keith Downie.

The 33-year-old is due to become a free agent when his contract at West Bromwich Albion expires at the end of this month and will be looking for a new club in the summer, after twelve seasons with the Baggies.

Blackburn Rovers and Reading are also thought to be interested in the Scotland midfielder, who made 19 Championship appearances for West Brom last season.

Bristol City finished eighth in the Championship table last season, four points outside the play-off places and Lee Johnson is hoping to improve his squad this summer.

So, would Morrison be a good signing for Bristol City?

We discuss...

Toby Wilding

"This could be a smart short-term signing for Bristol City.

"The arrival of Morrison would add some welcome experience to the Robins' midfield, and his time at the top of the table with West Brom last season could provide a valuable insight for a side who are looking to push on in that direction next year.

"Given his age and the reduction of game time Morrison saw last year, I'm not convinced they should be looking to bring him on a long-term basis, particularly if they are to continue that rise up the divisions."

George Brooks

"Morrison would be a good signing for Bristol City, especially as they'd be getting him on a free transfer.

"He is a vastly experienced player and would be a good addition to their midfield.

"He might not be good enough to start every week, but he would be a great addition to the dressing room and he should be able to use his experience to help the younger players in the team.

"If they can keep him fit, he could be a great signing for the Robins."

Alfie Burns

"This could be a really shrewd signing for Bristol City to make this summer.

"The side Johnson has assembled has some great qualities, but they need something extra to get themselves over the line in terms of reaching the play-offs.

"Someone like Morrison would bring experience and a little bit of knowhow in the midfield, which will improve that chance.

"On a free, it's a little bit of a no-brainer."
