Queens Park Rangers seem to have taken a very new approach to this summer’s transfer market.

Often associated with having an ageing side, Mark Warburton has offloaded 30-year-old Matt Smith and added young starlets Luke Amos and a much younger Matt Smith of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City respectively.

Clearly Warburton believed that there was only room for one Matt Smith at the club after their striker was sold to Millwall for an undisclosed fee.

Amos and Smith will definitely bring a breath of fresh air to Loftus Road. QPR needed an injection of pace into their midfield and they will definitely get that with these two players.

However not everything is as well as it seems within the club. It is believed that fan favourite Luke Freeman is set to leave the club to join Sheffield United for £3 million plus add ons. That price - at face value - for the 27-year-old would seem fair.

However, the price of what his departure means to QPR is something different entirely. Last season, the club's top five scorers were Nahki Wells [9], Luke Freeman [8], Matt Smith [8], Tomer Hemed [7] and Pawel Wszolek [6]. At the moment, it looks as though none of those players will be playing for Rangers next season.

This has to raise question marks about their attacking credentials for the upcoming season. None of their top five players who earned 36 goals and 18 assists will be in the blue and white of QPR next season.

Whilst young Premier League talent has often proven to prevail in the Championship, experienced heads will always be a key part of any team. Warburton looks set to lose two in the form of Freeman and Smith and has to be careful to find the right balance.

The London club are yet to sign a single attacker this summer but must do so if they are to stand any chance of improving from last season and avoiding relegation to League One.

That being said, last season QPR bolstered the fourth worst defensive record in the entire division. Signing two Premier League loan players who can both perform in the central defensive role could be a massive boost for the side.

There has been no balance to QPR’s transfer window thus far, signing two midfielders, a goalkeeper, a centre-back and a left-back.
