After just three games of the Championship season, Huddersfield Town are already searching for a new manager, after sacking Jan Siewert in the aftermath of Friday night's 2-1 defeat to Fulham.

It's been a difficult start for the Terriers following their dismal relegation from the Premier League last season, having taken just a single point from their opening three games of the Championship campaign to leave them in the relegation zone in the early standings.

The decision over who replaces Siewert will therefore be a big one for Huddersfield, although it remains to be seen just who it could be who takes up the role.

Here, we've taken a look at the Terriers' managerial situation, in our latest six point opinion piece.

Firstly, was sacking Siewert the right move?

"I think this was the right decision for Huddersfield to make.

"Siewert's record, one win in 19 games, simply wasn't good enough, and watching them against Fulham, it didn't really look as though he was likely to add to that solitary win on Friday night, even at the times when his side were level.

"You felt therefore that something was going to have to change, and with the club's fans making their feelings known even before full time, it felt as though there was a pretty clear mandate that had been set out to the board in order to get everyone at the club focusing in the same direction again.

"In fairness to Siewert, the problems at the club long-preceded his arrival, but with the German showing few signs of being the one to make a difference at the club, it did seem little more than a matter of time until he was moved on."

So who's could take over from Siewert?

"There looks to be plenty of names in the frame.

"Mark Hudson, who is currently in caretaker charge of the club, has admitted that he is interested in the job although he is not alone in being linked with the role.

"Former Birmingham, Stoke and Derby manager Garry Monk, and QPR assistant John Eustace are both thought to be under consideration, as is Dan Petrescu, who manages Romanian side CFR Cluj.

"It has also been claimed that former Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka is eager to speak to the club about the vacant managerial position."

Would Huddersfield be able to get any of these options?

"With Rowett, Hudson and Karanka all available, you imagine that the Terriers would have a good chance of securing the services of any of these three.

"Things could be less simple if they move for either Eustace or Petrescu, given they are currently employed elsewhere.

"Petrescu in particular could be challenging, given his Cluj side have just beaten Celtic in qualifying for the Champions League, and the former Chelsea man may be keen to see just how far he can take his current club in this year's competition."

Who would be the best of these options for Huddersfield?

"For me, I'd be looking at Karanka.

"Not only is he readily available and seemingly open to the role, but his experience in the Championship with both 'Boro - where he won promotion in 2016 - and Forest could be useful as the club look to steady themselves again following their drop back into the second tier.

"Indeed, with Karanka's team's having shown plenty of solidity in the past, you feel the Spaniard could help to iron out some of the errors that have been made on the pitch by the Terriers so far this season, providing them with some much-needed stability."

How big a decision is this for Huddersfield?

"This is a huge call for the Terriers to make.

"Huddersfield have won just four of their last 51 league games, so there is a desperate need for an upturn in form, and for a return of the winning mentality that got the club into the Premier League against all the odds in the first place.

"That being said, with the struggles the club is enduring on the pitch, you could argue that Huddersfield may need as much of a change in playing personnel as they did managerial, if they are to snap themselves out of this extreme loss of form."

Finally, how long could it take to find Siewert's replacement?

"This may not be a quick fix.

"It has been suggested that the club could wait until the international break in two weeks' time to make their move, in order to assess the options available to them.

"That may not be a bad move, given the importance of this appointment to the club, and they will not want to rush into a wrong decision, given that could leave them in the same position they now find themselves in again further down the line.

"It also means that there could now be an opportunity for Hudson to stake his own claim for the job, with the Terriers set to play three league games between now and then with which he can show his credentials for the job."
