Sunderland and Portsmouth are locked in a transfer tussle to the potential signing of Plymouth Argyle striker, Freddie Ladapo according to Plymouth Live.

The report claims that both clubs are close to agreeing a fee believed to be in the region of £500,000 for the striker who was in impressive form last season.

Ladapo netted 19 goals for Plymouth, but was unable to stop them from being relegated to League Two on the final day of the season.

The 26-year-old had previously attracted interest from Portsmouth and Sunderland, but they saw bids rejected for him in January's transfer window.

But with Plymouth being relegated, it seems as though it will only be a matter of time before he Ladapo is to leave the club for bigger and better things.

Sunderland could certainly benefit from having a striker of his quality in their squad next season as they target promotion back into the Championship.

But would Ladapo be a good signing for the Black Cats?

We discuss....

Toby Wilding:

"This would be a good signing by Sunderland.

"The Black Cats lacked a goalscorer in the second-half of last season, and Ladapo would surely solve that problem.

"Scoring 19 league goals in a side that suffered relegation last season is an outstanding return, and it makes you wonder what he could do for a side such as Sunderland, who will be expected to challenge for promotion again next season."

Kealan Hughes:

"This would be a great signing for Sunderland. Ladapo is a proven goalscorer and the Black Cats have missed that since Josh Maja's departure in January.

"Ladapo is quick and is an exceptional finisher at League One level. He scored 19 goals in a struggling Plymouth side last season so who knows what he could do in a winning team like Sunderland.

"He could just be about to hit his peak too and if he scores the goals to get Sunderland promoted, he would instantly pay back the £500,000 fee it would take to sign him."

Louie Chandler:

"This would be a great signing.

"Ladapo scored goals for fun last season and considering he did so in a badly struggling Plymouth side makes it all the more impressive.

"The Black Cats definitely need more depth in attack to compete with Wyke and Grigg who both underwhelmed last season."
