Sheffield Wednesday have had an up and down start to the season in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Owls were the very early-pacesetters in the league but have since lost a few games and that has left them in mid-table.

One thing has been consistent, though, and that is the performances of Julian Borner.

In this latest verdict, then, we assess just how good a signing he has been so far...

Gary Hutchinson

“He’s been excellent, a great signing for Wednesday.

“He was the sort of capture that usually worries me; no experience in the UK and a less than exciting record abroad.

“He proved me wrong. He’s strong, commanding and has been a big part of the Owls good form early on. It was important that they found someone to replace Michael Hector and they’ve done that.

“If he keeps it up, he’ll be a significant part of whatever it is they achieve this season. The key is maintaining the form, but at the moment I see no reason why he can’t be the lynchpin of their defence for the foreseeable future.”

Louie Chandler

"He has been an incredibly welcome presence.

"I think the biggest compliment you can pay him is that he has made Wednesday fans relatively forget about missing out on Michael Hector in the summer.

"He has been a monster at the back, winning every header and staying calm in possession - becoming one of Bullen's most important men.

"They still lack quite a bit of depth at the back, however, so keeping him fit will absolutely crucial."

George Dagless

"He's been excellent.

"He was a relative unknown when he arrived and fans still wanted to see Michael Hector come in towards the end of the window.

"He's shown that they perhaps don't need the Chelsea man, though, and he and Tom Lees have formed a fine partnership at the back already.

"It's a very promising duo at the heart of their defence and that is a real boost for the Owls."
