Aston Villa are poised to send youngster Callum O'Hare out on loan to Barnsley, as they look to ensure he gets regular football in the upcoming campaign.

The 20-year-old was on the fringes of the Villa first-team last season, playing eight games in the entire campaign, which frustrated many fans who felt he deserved more of a role.

However, with Jack Grealish staying at the club, along with a few quality options for Steve Bruce in that attacking midfield position, game time was going to be hard to come by for O'Hare.

Football Insider have reported that he is set for a loan move to Oakwell, as the Tykes look to return to the Championship at the first time of asking.

However, is it the right move from Villa to sanction this deal?

Our writers take a look...

I’m a bit surprised by this to tell you the truth.

Villa haven’t got a big squad and still need the options the likes of O’Hare can bring.

A good signing for Barnsley but I think Villa should have kept hold of him just for now.

Sam Rourke

This is a great move by Bruce.

O'Hare is going to struggle to get frequent game-time at Villa, and moving out on loan will be perfect for him.

The attacking midfielder needs to be playing first-team football week in, week out to help him develop and mature as a footballer.

Barnsley would be the perfect platform for him to progress his career.

Jay Taylor

A very good move.

The 20-year-old made eight appearances for Aston Villa last season, albeit the majority from the bench.

O’Hare might have had dreams of playing for the first-team this season before the new investment, but with new money comes new players and the chance to get in and amongst the first-team looks to have dwindled.

The move away will give him valuable first-team experience and the chance to, when he arrives back at Villa Park, battle for a place in Bruce’s side.

Alfie Burns

O’Hare needs to be playing regular football, so Villa’s decision must be admired.

Bruce hasn’t really placed much faith in the youngster, which has divided opinion, but now, O’Hare has the chance to prove to his parent-club that he has a big future.

It really is a good move for all parties involved.
