Bristol City manager Lee Johnson could soon have a decision to make with Huddersfield Town just one of the clubs keen on signing Sammie Szmodics in the January transfer window, according to a report on BristolLive.

Terriers manager Danny Cowley is keen to take Szmodics, 24, on a loan deal until the end of the season, with the former Colchester United midfielder struggling for game time at the Robins.

So would Szmodics be a good signing at the John Smith's Stadium?

We discuss.........

Jordan Rushworth

“Szmodics has had a really frustrating starting to life at Bristol City after joining them in the summer from Colchester, and he has so far failed to force his way into Lee Johnson’s side on a regular basis making only two appearances in the Championship.

“He was excellent at Colchester last season, proving a real threat in the final third ans scoring 14 goals and creating seven assists, and if he could find a club where he is given more first team chances he has the potential to make the step up to the Championship.

“Huddersfield could be an ideal destination for him, with Cowley needing to add to the squad in January and find some extra creativity in the final third for the Terriers, and you cloud see Szmodics fitting in well in their system.

“This then has the making of a sensible move for all parties, with Huddersfield being able to offer Szmodics more game time and Bristol City perhaps being able to and strengthen their squad in other areas in January.”

Ned Holmes

"Yes, I think this could be Szmodics could be a great addition to the Terriers squad.

"The 24-year-old has struggled for game time at Bristol City so far and six months playing more regularly in the Championship could be excellent for his development.

"The dynamic playmaker was one of the Robins' most exciting players during pre-season and could add some real energy and creativity to the Huddersfield side.

"Szmodics performances for Colchester United over the past two seasons, in which he scored 28 goals and contributed 13 assists, show just how useful he can be when he is settled."

Josh Cole

“This could turn out to be a shrewd signing by Huddersfield if they can convince Bristol City to loan Szmodics to them in the January transfer window.

“Since joining the Robins in the summer, the player has struggled to make any inroads on the club’s starting eleven due to the form illustrated by the likes of Andreas Weimann and Famara Diedhiou.

“Capable of operating in a number of different positions, Szmodics’ versatility could be beneficial for Huddersfield as it could be argued that they are lacking attacking options at the John Smith’s Stadium.

“Providing that the 24-year-old is able to hit the ground running for the Terriers, he may end up helping them a relative amount of success during the second-half of the season in the Championship.”
