Andrew Taylor is expected to lead Sunderland in their clash with Wigan Athletic, according to journalist Richard Mennear.

The Black Cats are in a state of limbo at the moment with the club in the process of making wholesale changes.

As well as a proposed takeover that could be announced any day now, the Wearsiders are also on the lookout for a new manager after taking the decision to sack Phil Parkinson last weekend.

Sunderland have endured a poor start to the season and find themselves outside of the top six as they look to secure promotion.

Plenty of names have been linked with the vacant role, but so far no decision has been made on a permanent replacement.

In the meantime it's first team coach Taylor who is leading the team and it's expected that he will be in charge once again as the Latics head to the Stadium Of Light.

But with an announcement expected at any point, Mennear of the Sunderland Echo has revealed that the club's usual pre-match press conference won't take place due to the 'fluid' situation with the manager's role.

Taking to Twitter, Mennear said: "As things stand Andrew Taylor taking Sunderland game tomorrow.

"No press conference planned for today - clearly a fluid situation though with the manager hunt etc."

The Verdict

It's a strange time to be a Sunderland supporter right now.

With big changes afoot in both the boardroom and in the technical area fans could be forgiven for feeling a little bit unsettled right now.

As it stands it appears that Andrew Taylor will continue leading the first team this weekend, but given the state of flux that the club are in it wouldn't be a surprise to hear an announcement at any point.
