Reading make the long trip to Wigan this weekend, with manager Paul Clement looking to get his side firing, to push them away from the 20th place they find themselves in the Championship.

Clement is under real pressure with a win and a draw in the Royals last two outings not enough to quell the speculation that his job is on the line, and with managers like the experienced Mick McCarthy available, could time be running out for Clement?

But with the Republic of Ireland job being linked to McCarthy, should Reading move quickly if he is their man?

We discuss.....

Jay Taylor

There is no doubt he would give them some much-needed stability within the team when they are on the pitch.

His style of play is robust and resolute and other than that he doesn’t offer much imagination, other than being a safe pair of hands to steady a ship.

If Reading want to be progressive and expansive, then let the FAI come in for Mick McCarthy and look elsewhere for a more vibrant manager.

George Harbey

I don’t think so.

McCarthy is very much a firefighter manager - he’ll go in and steer them comfortably away from relegation but what else?

They need someone who can take them all the way, someone like Jokanovic.

Louie Chandler

I think so.

I would personally be amazed if Mick moved to any struggling club and they failed to stay up.

Even if he joins on a short-term deal it would be well worth the Royals' time.
