Both Midlands powerhouses of Aston Villa and Birmingham City are enduring a challenging start to this Championship season for different reasons.

Here our team consider whether there are any members of Garry Monk's squad who would make it into the current Aston Villa side.

We discuss.....

Jay Taylor

I think in attacking areas maybe only Jota would make the Villa side.

It would be in the defensive areas where Birmingham might have more joy in getting into the Villa side.

They are in need of rearguard reinforcements and Garry Monk’s men have a solid defence with some players who are still to show their top form.

Michael Morrison and Maxime Colin could possibly get into the Villa side, as too could Harlee Dean.

Gary Hutchinson

Considering James Chester is banned, at least two centre-halves without a doubt.

After that? No. How could they?

That is reflective of everything wrong at Villa. Their XI, aside from the middle of defence, is excellent.

Yet they’re awful. That is why Bruce was sacked and that is probably why Garry Monk would be a good appointment.

He’s crafted a decent side from dregs, imagine what he could do with Villa’s players.

George Harbey

I think perhaps Jota would get into the Villa squad on his day, which would be very interesting if Dean Smith got the Villa job.

Apart from that, I really can’t see anyone who would get in...

George Dagless

I think a few would.

Lee Camp definitely pushes Orjan Nyland right now.

You look at Birmingham's defence and could suggest most of them get in alongside James Chester.

Maikel Kieftenbeld has a case for joining John McGinn in midfield and I think Jota would get in too - it's pretty even right now.

Jacob Potter

One player who definitely would be in with a shout of making Villa’s starting XI would be Che Adams. The striker has already netted three times this season and his pace, alongside Villa’s Tammy Abraham, would terrorise defences every week.

Winger Jota would also fit well into this Villa side, with his trickery causing problems for full-backs on a regular basis.
