Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan is a man who just cannot catch a break at the moment.

The 25-year-old joined the Villans last January from Brentford for a hefty £15 million fee, but life has not been easy for the striker at Villa Park.

The Salford-born forward has notched just one goal since arriving at the club, and is now being ousted from the starting line-up by youngster Keinan Davis, who is forming a lethal partnership with Jonathan Kodjia.

Hogan faces a pivotal few months ahead, and it really is make or break.

The writers here at Football League World have had their say on the former Brentford frontman....

Alfie Burns

"Hogan has been a disappointing addition to Aston Villa’s squad, failing to justify the hefty transfer fee paid for him.

"At this moment in time, Keinan Davis and Callum O’Hare are much more deserving on a first team opportunity alongside Jonathan Kodjia in attack.

"The Irishman needs to rediscover his best, before the pressure begins to mount on him at Villa Park."

George Dagless

"There was real excitement when Villa signed Hogan for decent money last season but, since then, he's not hit the heights he was at at Brentford.

"Injuries have played their part, of course, but this season he's been fit and still not really produced - especially in the league.

"Therefore, he'll surely be pondering where his future lies come January with Keinan Davis looking the main back-up to Jonathan Kodjia now.

Chris Gallagher

"Scott Hogan looked a good signing for Villa on paper given his record at Brentford but hasn't delivered at all and is now behind a 19-year old having scored one league goal since February.

"Villa have little chance of getting anywhere near the money they reportedly paid for him back, but are still best off selling him in the next window.

"Steve Bruce clearly doesn't rate Hogan and Villa will need a new man to compete with Jonathan Kodjia and Keinan Davis in the second half of the season, if they are to get promoted.

Adam Simeoni

"Hogan is a tough one to analyse.

"Devastating knee injuries could have finished him off, but he worked hard to force his way back into the reckoning at Brentford to become one of the deadliest strikers in the league.

"Talent doesn't disappear overnight, but some may argue that Hogan has only had half a season of good form at this level. Even in Kodjia's absence he struggled, and if Villa go up, I can't see him going with them as it stands.
