Last season was a disappointment by all accounts if you were a Millwall fan following the previous campaign's play-off push.

Finishing just one place above the relegation zone will have acted as a real wake-up call to those around the club and some serious summer business will need to be done.

And it appears like it could get off to a good start with impressive midfielder Ben Thompson set to sign a new long-term deal with the club, according to London News Online.

After impressing on loan with Portsmouth during the first half of the campaign, Thompson was recalled in January and played a crucial role as Neil Harris's side scraped survival.

So, just how big a boost is this for the Lions?

We discuss...

Toby Wilding

"I think this is a boost for Millwall.

"Thompson played a big part in helping keep Millwall in the Championship following his return from a loan at Portsmouth, and with survival set to be Millwall's aim again next season, having Thompson around could help considerably.

"Having seemingly lost Lee Gregory to Stoke, tying Thompson down will also send out a message that there will be no free for all when it comes to poaching key players from The Den in the summer transfer window."

George Harbey

"I think this is a massive piece of news for Millwall.

"Of course, it’s always good to a homegrown star make a breakthrough in the first team, and he thoroughly deserves this new deal.

"He was tremendous on loan with Portsmouth this season, and will fancy his chances of being a regular for Harris’ side next time around."

Louie Chandler

"This is a crucial bit of summer business.

"Millwall will most likely be very busy this summer so tying their top talents down to long-term deals is a very smart move.

"Thompson was excellent and certainly has the ability to play higher than Millwall so this is a real must."
