In a recent interview with The Royal Gazette, former Manchester City and Bermuda forward Shaun Goater has admitted that Nahki Wells could fire the Hoops to promotion from the Championship this term.

Football League World's QPR fan pundit Joshua Willocks has issued his thoughts on Goater's latest claim, and isn't getting ahead of himself after their strong start to this year's league campaign.

"I think we've surprised everyone with how strong we've started the season and there's no doubt that Nakhi Wells has been an integral part of our early season success.

"But during this strong run of form, we have to stay grounded and remain realistic about our promotion chances without diminishing the excellent job Warburton has done in bringing stability back to the club.

"Wells and his fine goalscoring form has helped push this young side to uncharted territory in the table but surely it's too early to putting expectations on a team which were touted for relegation only a few months ago."

Willocks has been impressed with what he has seen from the Hoops striker, and highlighted what has been different from Wells compared to last season, where he scored seven goals in 40 league games.

"Nobody could of doubted his commitment and work ethic last season but it seems that after rejoining the club in the summer, many aspects of his game have got stronger under Warburton's leadership.

"After being loaned out by his parent club Burnley for a second consecutive season, Wells has seemingly settled in West London and is proving the doubters wrong by playing his best football since his days at Huddersfield Town.

"After solidifying his place in the managers starting XI, Wells has been a constant menace for defenders with his pace and confidence on the ball and now has a certain ruthlessness and composure in front of goal that was lacking in the previous campaign.

"With his quality and ambitions of Premier League football to end his career, he will only get better as the season progresses."

The regular punter also admitted that Wells is benefitting from having a striker with Jordan Hugill's quality in the QPR side to push him for his starting spot throughout this year's league campaign.

"It's always beneficial to have another striker of Hugill's quality in the ranks and his form this season has definitely motivated Wells in rediscovering his best football for the team.

"Wells has excelled since forming a prolific partnership with Hugill and unlike last season has a more dynamic target man to play off and create chances. Being part of a freshly assembled squad with a stronger emphasis on attacking, possession based football has definitely suited his style of play and now we're seeing the rewards with 5 goals so far this campaign.

"Having both these players from Premier League clubs means our depth in attack is at it's strongest in years and it all bodes well for a respectable league position come the end of the season."
