West Brom manager Slaven Bilic is looking to add to his ranks, with a move to re-sign centre-back Mason Holgate from Everton a possibility, according to a report in the Express & Star.

The 22-year-old spent the second half of last season at the Hawthorns scoring once in 19 appearances, and was a key component in the team, as the Baggies reached the Championship play-offs.

So are West Brom making the right decision looking to re-sign Holgate?

We discuss........

Jacob Potter

"It’s a move that would be risky at first, but it could pay off.

"Holgate spent last season at full-back for West Brom and put in a number of impressive performances, which evidently haven’t gone unnoticed.

"The Baggies are in need of another central defender after Craig Dawson left to join Watford, and Holgate could be the man to fill the sizeable void in the heart of the West Brom defence.

"He’d offer pace and a calm head in the defence, and it could prove to be a really smart move if he thrives there.

"You have to trust Bilic’s judgement on this one, as he’s a manager who knows what he’s doing, and I’m confident that he’ll guide West Brom back into the Premier League if they hit the ground running."

George Harbey

“You can probably see Slaven Bilic’s thinking with this one, as the Baggies do need to strengthen at the back even though they signed Ajayi from Rotherham recently.

“I was really impressed with Holgate at right-back last season, he hardly put a foot wrong defensively and was an excellent loan signing in my opinion.

“He has obviously played as a centre-half for Everton, so it’s hardly an unnatural position, and I think that he could do a good job there for Albion.

“He’s tall, commanding and quick, and he reminds me of Tyrone Mings in a way.”

Ned Holmes

“I think this would be a really smart move.

“I remember watching Holgate fill in at centre-back for Everton when he emerged on the scene in 2016 and thinking he looked like a special talent.

“Given his pace, it is easy to push Holgate into the full-back role but I think he reads the game brilliantly in the centre of defence.

“Bringing him in on loan is low risk and could be really high reward. I think this could be a decision that the Baggies look back on very fondly at the end of the season.”
