Sheffield Wednesday have strengthened their squad, despite still needing to confirm a permanent manager, with the loan signing of Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy, as confirmed on the club website.

Murphy, 24, joined Newcastle in 2017 and has made 40 appearances for the Toon, but last season spent the second half of last season on loan at West Brom helping them reach the Championship play-off semi-finals.

So will Murphy be a good signing for the Owls and do you expect him to be involved much this season?

We discuss........

George Brooks

"I think this is a good signing for Sheffield Wednesday.

"Even though Murphy struggled for Newcastle last season and didn't make a huge impact while on loan at West Brom, he's still a good player.

"He's an exciting winger and he's got fantastic pace. He's got plenty of experience in the Championship too and I think he's still good enough to make an impact at this level.

"He will be determined to prove himself after an underwhelming few seasons and I think he's got what it takes to get his career back on track with Wednesday.

"Wednesday have now got two very good wingers in Murphy and Kadeem Harris, so Owls fans have got plenty of reasons to be excited ahead of the new season."

George Dagless

"I think so.

"It could be a very decent signing given the talent he has got and with him and Kadeem Harris potentially on the pitch together we should see the Owls scoring plenty of goals this season.

"That is also the question, though, will Wednesday look to use both of them? And where will that leave Adam Reach on the pitch?

"Those points will need answers but, in truth, it's a good signing and I was impressed with what Wednesday did on Deadline Day."

Toby Wilding

"I think this is a decent signing for Wednesday.

"Murphy has certainly impressed at this level previously, and his experience at the higher end of the division could be useful for Sheffield Wednesday in the coming campaign.

"Given that impact he has had at this level before, both with Norwich and West Brom, I do think it would be a smart move from Wednesday to look to try and capitalise on that by using him as much as possible during his time at Hillsborough.

"Despite the uncertainty that hit the club partway through the summer with the departure of Steve Bruce, it was an impressive end to the window for the Owls, who have still managed to strengthen their squad well, with Murphy's attacking threat and Championship ability certainly making him a part of that improvement."
