Millwall have appointed Gary Rowett as their new permanent manager, succeeding Neil Harris who resigned in early October, as confirmed on the club website.

The former Burton Albion, Birmingham City, Derby County and Stoke City manager will keep caretaker manager Adam Barrett as first-team coach, while Callum Davidson and Joe Carnall, who worked with Rowett at Stoke, will again form part of his backroom staff.

So is Rowett the right appointment for Millwall?

We discuss........

George Brooks

"I think this could be a good appointment for Millwall. Rowett is a good manager and he's got plenty of experience in the Championship.

"He knows what it takes to win matches at this level and wouldn't need to adjust to the challenges that come with managing in such a tough league.

"He did an excellent job in turning things around at Birmingham City a few seasons ago and he was also able to guide Derby County to the play-offs.

"Things didn't work out for him at Stoke but he deserves another chance in management and Millwall could be a good club for him.

"He should be able to get the best out of the players and it seems like an appointment that the fans at The Den could get behind too - which could be exactly what the club need after losing a club legend in Neil Harris."

Liam Drury

"Gary Rowett being appointed the new Millwall manager is the right decision by the Lions board, as they have finally got their man following an extensive search across the past couple of weeks in the wake of Neil Harris’ resignation.

"The reason that Rowett is such a good choice for Millwall is because he brings with him the required experience to make Millwall a success and to consolidate the Lions in the Championship, hopefully steering them away from relegation trouble at the same time.

"Rowett will have the contacts and the players in his pocket to bolster the squad come January if he feels the need to dip into the transfer market and have a look at the players that are available to him.

"Rowett will be looking to hit the ground running while at Millwall however, and he faces a tough few weeks ahead to show his managerial credentials from the get-go."

Jordan Rushworth

"Gary Rowett is an excellent appointment for Millwall, given the brilliant job he has done at the likes of Burton Albion and Birmingham City without the resources of some of the other teams around them, which is the position that the Lions find themselves in in the Championship.

"Millwall supporters demand work rate from their players, which is something Rowett really instills into his players, and he would be able to carry on implementing the same style of play that has proved successful under Neil Harris in recent seasons.

"Rowett also will feel he has maybe a point to prove after his sacking at Stoke City last season, and that would make him extra motivated to get Millwall pushing up towards the top half of the table, and as he did with Birmingham, he could even get them challenging for the play-offs if given time to build his squad and get his message across."
