Luton Town are closing in on the signing of Leeds United full-back Cody Drameh, with an update from transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealing that the 21-year-old is on his way for a medical.

The Hatters are looking to move swiftly in the transfer market after reports have surfaced that the Hatters have agreed a deal to sell James Bree to Southampton.

Drameh, who enjoyed a loan spell at Cardiff City last time out, featured 22 times during the second half of the Championship campaign, operating both as a wing-back and a full-back in a solid four during his time with the Bluebirds.

Adapting brilliantly to his loan stint in South Wales, the young defender went on to win the club's Player of the Season award.

Three of our writers here at FLW have shared their thoughts on the young defender and assess whether he would represent a good signing for the Hatters...

Losing James Bree has to be classed as a blow, given his chance-creation numbers, reliability and versatility, however, Cody Drameh is an exciting option who has what is required to immediately soften this blow.

Pacey, athletic and a good carrier of the ball, the 21-year-old is a direct runner who is probably more of a fit for the way that Luton want to play under Rob Edwards than Bree was.

Defensively speaking, he has the energy required to operate in the wing-back role and is a very difficult opponent to come up against one-on-one.

Highly rated by Cardiff fans after a brilliant loan spell in South Wales, the Hatters will be hoping that he can start on the front foot and provide the same kind of service that he delivered whilst with the Bluebirds.

This is a deal which makes sense for Luton.

With James Bree looking increasingly likely to depart, the Hatters need a replacement and Drameh represents the perfect solution.

He has proven himself to be more than capable in the Championship after his loan spell at Cardiff City last season and there has been no shortage of interest in his signature this month, so Rob Edwards should be commended for securing the deal.

It is an great move for Drameh to join a side on an upward trajectory and in with a real chance of reaching the top six again after an excellent start to life under Edwards.

With Jesse Marsch supposedly keen for Drameh to form part of his first-team squad next season, he will gain crucial senior experience and Kenilworth Road, so this is a move which will be beneficial for all parties.

The Hatters continue to be classy operators in the transfer market and ensuring they cushion the blow of Bree’s imminent exit with the arrival of Drameh is a clever move.

The flying wing back may even be an upgrade on Bree in the attacking third, and it is a signing that should increase their chances of bulldozing their way into the top six for a second consecutive season.

Kenilworth Road is already one of the tougher away trips in the league, and when you are greeted with Drameh and Alfie Doughty off both flanks, with the quality of Elijah Adebayo, Cauley Woodrow and Carlton Morris through the centre, the Hatters cannot be written off in this play-off race.

Drameh enters the final year of his deal at Leeds in the summer, and Luton feels like an appropriate step following his successful spell at Cardiff City last term.
