Derby County could turn to another Chelsea legend if Frank Lampard leaves the club to take over as manager at Stamford Bridge, with The Daily Mail reporting that The Rams are eyeing up John Terry to take over in the Pride Park dugout.

ESPN have claimed that Chelsea will offer Lampard a three year deal to take over from Maurizio Sarri later this week, with Terry now thought to be among those who could replace Lampard at the Championship side.

Having ended his playing career with a season at Aston Villa during the 2017/18 campaign, Terry spent this season as part of the Midlands side's coaching staff, helping them to win promotion back to the Premier League, after beating Lampard's Derby side 2-1 in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.

So would Terry be a good managerial appointment for Derby?

We put that question to some of our Football League World writers.

George Brooks

"I'm not sure John Terry would be a good appointment for Derby.

"He did a great job at Aston Villa last season and will have learned a lot from working alongside Dean Smith, but I don't think he's ready to become a manager just yet.

"I know Lampard did a fantastic job with the Rams in his first season as a manager, so I can understand why Derby would be interested in someone like Derby, but I don't think he's experienced enough at this stage of his career.

"He no doubt will become a manager one day, but for now, I think he should stay at Villa and continue to learn and improve as an assistant."

Jacob Potter

"I'm really not sure about this one.

"There's no doubting that in the future, Terry will be good enough to be a manager of a number of teams, but Derby need stability surely?

"I'd be going for a more experienced manager if I was Derby, as it would be too much of a risk to appoint Terry heading into next season.

"Aitor Karanka would be top of my list if I was in charge of the Rams."

Kealan Hughes

"I think this could be exactly what Derby need.

"With Lampard departing they lose not only a very good manager but a wealth of contacts too, which were so important for their successful loan signings last year.

"Terry could come in and continue where Lampard left off. His leadership and influence would be huge, and playing for a figure like Terry would encourage the players to give their all and play to the best of their ability."

Chris Gallagher

"This would be a clever move.

"Derby have gone for tried and trusted options over the years and they haven't worked out at all.

"Then, they took something of a risk with Lampard by giving him his first managerial role and it paid off spectacularly as he united the club and built an exciting side.

"I think Terry would carry that on and would be determined to prove himself as a top manager like his former teammate did at Pride Park."
