Nottingham Forest’s start to the Sky Bet Championship season has been steady, with Mark Warburton’s side showing signs that they will be in the hunt for the top-six later this season if they can find a certain level of consistency.

The Reds currently sit ninth in the Championship table, but entered last weekend’s international break on an excellent run of form, having won three of their last four fixtures.

It remains to be seen if Forest’s squad is strong enough to mount a serious promotion challenge, with additions likely to be needed in the January transfer window.

With that in mind, our writers look at who Nottingham Forest would sign if they were presented with an open chequebook…

Chris Gallagher

Ben Gibson.

Forest are actually very good going forward and can match most in the league when it comes to attacking talent.

In central defence, it's a completely different story.

So, if money was no object, they'd have to go for one of the best defenders in the league, of which Gibson is undoubtedly one.

Adam Simeoni

You'd have to bring big Britt back, wouldn't you?

Losing Assombalonga allowed Forest to build the squad they have this season, but the 24-year-old really could be the final piece in the puzzle for Warburton's side.

Full of goals and with a number of creative players on the books at the City Ground, Assombalonga would ironically be the perfect signing for the club.

Sam Rourke

Aden Flint from Bristol City.

It's exactly what Nottingham Forest need.

Centre-back has often been a problem position for the Reds over the last few years, and the commanding presence of Flint would be perfect for Forest.

George Dagless

Someone defensive.

It sounds pretty boring but Forest don't need any more attacking players really, certainly not before they strengthen their defensive side.

A centre-half with experience would be ideal so John Terry perhaps, not that he'd cost that much.
