After failing to secure a win in the Championship in their last seven outings, West Brom fans could be forgiven for looking nervously over their shoulders, after their latest defeat saw them relinquish top spot in the league to Leeds United.

Against this back-drop, Bristol Live is reporting that the Baggies are going head-to-head with Bristol City and Nottingham Forest in the race to land Burnley striker Matej Vydra, who has fallen down the pecking order in Sean Dyche's side.

So would Vydra prove a good signing for the Baggies, is he needed and would he get into their starting XI?

We discuss.........

Dean Cooke

"This would be a cracking signing that could see them get back on track right away in my opinion. After signing Callum Robinson, this would be another player that could really help the side in terms of goal-scoring threat.

"Since the victory at Birmingham way back in December, West Brom have failed to win a league game and it's becoming worrying for Slaven Bilic as he won't want to drop into the play-offs. Vydra is a player who is proven at this level, and in a good side will score goals.

"He has the ability to finish calmly, as well as be able to make runs that other players in the division aren't able to do. He needs to be playing more football, and it would certainly be a boost for the Baggies considering Charlie Austin's inconsistent record this season.

"He'd certainly get in the starting XI, and he'd be an option for Bilic to change formations and go and play two up front in some games rather than sticking with the one. So it would be a favourable signing by all accounts, and one that is needed."

Louie Chandler

"Vydra would be an excellent addition to any side in the Championship and I definitely think he would add something for the Baggies.

"So far this season the outstanding performances for West Brom have, more often than not, come in the creative departments through the likes of Matheus Pereira.

"Whilst Charlie Austin and Hal Robson Kanu have impressed in flashes, neither have particularly shown that they will be a reliable goalscorer.

"Vydra has shown throughout his time in the second tier that he is able to score the goals consistently and I think that is something that West Brom could do with."

Chris Thorpe

"A brilliant signing on paper for the Baggies here as they would be securing the signing of a player that has a proven goal scoring record at Championship level for the likes of Watford and Derby County.

"He would definitely stand a good chance of getting into the club's starting eleven right now, with Charlie Austin having so far failed to really find any real consistency in front of goal for the league leaders.

"It's fair to say that a new striker is needed by West Brom who have been left short of numbers this season at times due to the absence of Kenneth Zohore, who has experienced his fair share of injury troubles so far.

"If Vydra really hits form for Slaven Bilic's side, we could well see the promotion chasers explore the possibility of making the transfer permanent for the Czech Republic international."
