Cardiff City boss Mick McCarthy is reportedly keen to sign Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes on a free transfer in the summer.

According to The Sun, McCarthy attempted to sign him in January but having been unsuccessful, remains keen to do a deal in the summer after his contract at Hillsborough has expired.

So, would he be a good signing for Cardiff? And would that be a blow for Wednesday?

Our FLW writers give their thoughts...

It’s a brave move for a striker that’s been well short of his best for some time now.

Rhodes has shown signs of improving at Wednesday and getting back to the same player we saw at Huddersfield and Blackburn, but they’ve been moments that haven’t been built on.

Cardiff would be taking an almighty risk trying to get Rhodes back to that level, even if he’s arriving as a free agent.

Obviously, a wavered fee does take away an element of risk, but in terms of what Rhodes will return, you just can’t bank on it being enough.

Honestly, you’d be swerving the deal if you were of a Cardiff persuasion and, the most telling part of it would be, most Wednesday fans would be happy to see the back of an expensive flop.

I think he's a player that needs to refind the sort of form that we saw at Blackburn and Huddersfield, he's lost his way so to speak.

Wednesday would probably be quite happy to get him off the wage bill if truth be told and he hasn't exactly pulled up trees for the Owls.

He needs a fresh start and I think Cardiff would be a great career move for him.

I can't see him being a regular starter if he goes there but I doubt he'll get a better chance for a move of this size at his age.

I'm in two minds about this one, mainly because we have no idea what division Cardiff will be in next season.

Rhodes hasn't pulled up any trees during his four years at Hillsborough, but in recent matches he's started to show what he's capable of once again.

And he would probably be a good option for Cardiff if they're in the Championship next season - Mick McCarthy doesn't have much in terms of natural partners for Kieffer Moore and he's using wingers there instead right now.

If the Bluebirds finish the season with Premier League promotion though they will be aiming higher than a Jordan Rhodes - and I don't think it would be that much of a blow for Wednesday to lose him considering his goal contributions in his time there.
