ExaminerLive report via German outlet Bild that former Huddersfield manager David Wagner could take Christopher Schindler to his new club Schalke.

It is bad news for Huddersfield fans as Schindler has become a fan favourite, winning the Huddersfield Player of the Year award in both of their two seasons in the Premier League.

He was also a key member of the squad which won the promotion from the Championship via the playoffs in 2017, and wrote his name into Town folklore by scoring the winning penalty in the shootout in the final.

However, since he still has two years remaining on his contract Huddersfield are not in the position where they need to sell, unless the player makes it clear that he wants to move.

Schindler is approaching 30 though, so Huddersfield could decide the time is right for them to sell. He is valued at £5.4 million by transfermarkt so it could be a good deal financially for the club.

So, should The Terriers say farewell to Schindler?

Here's the thoughts of our writers...

Toby Wilding "I think they must do all they can to keep. "Schindler has been a virtual ever present during his three years at Huddersfield, and he has the sort of experience that could be vital if Huddersfield are to land on their feet in the Championship. "With a club the size of Schalke interested, and the obvious connection with Wagner, I think it could be difficult for The Terriers to keep him at the club." George Harbey "I think it would be a brave decision to let him go. "He wasn't as effective as he perhaps would have liked to be in the Premier League last term, but he has such a close affinity with fans and the club in general. "He knows how to be successful in the Championship, and sometimes you need to keep hold of those type of players for as long as you can." Kealan Hughes "It would be a big shame if Huddersfield let him go. "He has been integral to them since he joined and is bound to have a great season for The Terriers back in the Championship, and as club captain Huddersfield would not only be letting a top defender leave, but a leader too." "The only silver lining is that they could fetch a decent fee for him, which given he's 29 would be a bonus."
