With his time at Middlesbrough showing little sign of sparking into life, Adam Forshaw decided it was time for a fresh start.

The midfielder had struggled for starts at the Riverside and throughout the first half of the 2017/18 season, he was predominantly used as a substitute.

In January, however, Leeds United agreed to pay £4.5million to bring the midfielder to Elland Road.

Here on FLW Rewind, we will look at how the former Brentford man's arrival was met by Whites supporters and it was a deal that produced a positive reaction.

Paul Heckingbottom had clearly identified the need for a fresh midfield presence and Forshaw, a proven Championship standard player, fit the bill perfectly.

As happy as they were, however, fans were quick to warn Forshaw of the significance of the number four shirt which he chose to inherit:

With club legend Billy Bremner once holding the shirt number for ten years throughout the 60s and 70s it is a shirt number that holds a special place in the club's history.

Sadly, Forshaw is yet to live up to the prominence the shirt holds.

A mixture of injuries and intense competition have limited the midfielder's chances and throughout the remainder of the 17/18 season, he remained largely as a substitute, although he usually impressed when he did play.

Having recently returned from a pre-season injury, Marcelo Bielsa looks set to make Forshaw a more important member of his squad.

The Argentinian appreicates the qualities that Forshaw has and over a long, hard season he could become a key part of their promotion push.
