Reading are stuck in mid-table in the current campaign, sitting in 15th place in the Championship.

The Royals are performing better than they did last season when they fought off relegation thanks to former manager Jose Gomes.

One player who was brought into the club over the summer is central-defensive midfielder Pele who is on loan from French giants AS Monaco.

He's impressed, and so much so that a permanent move isn't out of the question. We take a look at the possibility of a long-term deal for the midfielder in an FLW Six Pointer...

How has Pele played so far this season?

"He's been very good. He's grown into the type of player that every Championship side needs in their team. Pele has good ability when it comes to defensive positioning and he always seems to be in the right place to clear the ball away or stop danger.

"The midfielder took time to get to grips with the speed of the game, but since December he's been flying and has replaced Andy Rinomhota in the Reading side."

Has his role changed under Mark Bowen, compared to Jose Gomes?

"Yes, he's not focusing on being on the ball as much but instead his main focus is on guarding the back-line which is an important job for any defensive-midfielder.

"Under Gomes, it seems he was told to try and pass the ball and get it out from the back in a calm manner. Now, when he gets it he plays it either one of John Swift or Ovie Ejaria, or he attempts to go long to ensure the Royals aren't in any trouble defensively."

Should Reading sign him permanently?

"Yes, Pele should definitely be on Reading's agenda in the summer. He's been a great acquisition and at the age of 28-years-old, he still has a number of years left in his legs to make an impact at Championship level.

"A permanent move would allow Rinomhota to continue to develop alongside Pele, which would mean he could eventually replace the defensive-midfielder. It would be the perfect fit if the Royals are thinking long-term."

How much would he cost?

"He is unlikely to be cheap. He joined AS Monaco for £10 million from Portuguese side Rio Ave, so it would be interesting to find out how much the French club would demand for the midfielder.

"If the Royals could get him back on another loan deal, or even agree a deal with Monaco for anything less than £7 million then it would be a very good deal for the English side."

Is he worth that price?

"For what he brings to the team, yes. Reading have conceded so many goals in past seasons, but with Pele in they have conceded the joint-seventh least amount of goals in the division and that has been a big bonus to the side.

"His standout performances against sides such as Preston North End and Fulham prove that he'd be worth every bit of that transfer fee, even if the Royals were battling in the top half."

Is he capable of have a long-term future at the club?

"He definitely is capable of staying for up to five years and being a key part of a midfield that has needed some steel for quite some time.

"He has allowed Reading's play-making midfielders time on the ball and a platform to attack which is something other defensive-midfielders haven't been able to do in previous years."
