As what has been an enthralling 2016/17 campaign in the EFL draws closer to an end, Leeds United really should be preparing for the play-offs.

Instead though, the Yorkshire club have missed out on the Championship play-off places by five points, behind high-flying Fulham, despite spending a large majority of the campaign in and around the third place position.

One major factor that will play a part in this though is this summer’s transfer window, as Leeds’ recruitment needs to be spot on in order to ignite yet another promotion push next year.

The additions of Pontus Jansson and Pablo Hernandez, to name a couple, have been influential for the Whites this term, however there is still definitely room for improvement in the United ranks.

Chris Wood is a man who has been on fire for Leeds this term, however should interest from the Premier League come about, it'll be very hard to keep the New Zealand international at Elland Road.

But there is one man who Garry Monk should definitely look to sign next year, a man who would play an influential role in Leeds' promotion push next year...

That man is Benik Afobe.

Since arriving from Wolves in 2016, Afobe has been in and out of the AFC Bournemouth starting eleven.

Afobe has made just 26 starting appearances for the Cherries, netting 10 times, however finds himself behind the likes of Josh King and Callum Wilson in the pecking order.

The 24-year old has been prolific in front of goal in the last few years, netting 22 times in 42 games for Wolves, whilst also scoring 10 goals in 22 appearances for MK Dons in the 2014/15 campaign.

There is no doubt Leeds are a sleeping giant with a major ambition to return to the Premier League, and Garry Monk could definitely lure the prolific forward to Elland Road on a loan deal in the summer.

A player like Afobe needs consistent game time, and would add to a Leeds attack already brimming with talent.
