Sheffield Wednesday are a club that are never afraid to throw money around during the transfer window, as the Owls look to end a long wait for a Premier League return, which stretches back to the start of the Millennium.

Carlos Carvalhal will be hoping to strengthen in the January transfer window, but with some clubs often unwilling to deal midway through the season, Wednesday could even have an early eye on their summer targets.

Here at FLW, one player we believe could seriously enhance Wednesday’s squad is Jonathan Leko, the West Bromwich Albion attacker, who is currently out on-loan in the Sky Bet Championship with Bristol City.

Leko, 18, has made eight Championship appearances under Lee Johnson at Ashton Gate this season, helping the Robins make an excellent start to the 2017/18 campaign, which sees them sitting fourth heading into this week’s international break.

The forward, who has the ability to play either left, right or centrally, is likely to return to the Hawthorns in the summer, where he is contracted until the summer of 2019.

Wednesday could be one club looking to make a summer move to Leko, with Carvalhal’s attacking options in desperate need of bolstering. Adam Reach is the only natural option on the left, whilst Ross Wallace and George Boyd provide an option on the right, although the duo are both left-footed and do not bring natural width.

Leko has a lot to learn, but he would bring another dimension to Wednesday’s attack, providing natural width and another option down the middle for Carvalhal.

The summer is a long way off, but Leko should be a man Wednesday are keeping a watchful eye on, as he could be a perfect fit for them in the summer.
