Although transfer fees are rising all the time especially in the Championship, any club is partial to a free transfer when a player runs out of contract at the end of each season.

The free transfer market can be very useful for clubs in the second tier of English football, and this summer there will be an array of Championship clubs looking to pick up some bargains in the free transfer market.

There a several high-profile players who are currently free agents, and FLW contributor Edan Shelley has identified THREE free agents that could be perfect for a Championship outfit ahead of the new season....

Adrian Mariappa - Crystal Palace - CB/RB

Mariappa

Mariappa has been at Palace for three years now since joining from Reading, and in the past couple of campaigns although proving to be a solid backup player, the Jamaican international hasn't managed to make a position his own.

If Palace don't decide to offer the defender a new deal, a team like former club Reading should seriously consider acquiring his service, especially after his fellow countryman Michael Hector; an important part of the Reading defence last season has returned to Chelsea.

Stephane Sessegnon - West Bromwich Albion - CAM

It has already been confirmed that the Benin international won't be staying at The Hawthorns next season and he would be a great fit at a team like Bristol City.

In the second half of last season City took Lee Tomlin on loan from Bournemouth and he turned in some very good performances in a position just behind the striker.

With Tomlin aiming to push for a starting place at Dean Court next year, Lee Johnson will want to fill that no.10 position that worked so well for them, and Sessegnon would be a great addition with plenty of experience behind him.

Victor Anichebe - West Bromwich Albion  - ST

Along with Sessegnon the former Everton striker Anichebe was not handed a new contract by Tony Pulis, and will need to try rebuild his career potentially at a Championship club.

Since his move from Everton in 2013, the Nigerian forward only managed to bag 9 goals but a club that could really benefit from his services are Blackburn Rovers.

The Lancashire based side have struggled to find the back of the net since Jordan Rhodes left for Middlesbrough and Anichebe could turn out to be a perfect replacement.
